A mother whose daughter was battered to death has blasted "thoughtless" cops after they tweeted an April Fool's joke asking people to vote for which prisoner they wanted to be released.

Manchester Police ran the 'joke' competition offering the winning convict a free holiday and £500 spending money, Mirror Online reports.

In the tweet, GMP Radcliffe asked: "Know someone in prison? You can get them released early by voting for them on here. The prisoners with the most votes also wins a holiday."
